This kākāpō t-shirt was inspired by the visit of the worlds most famous kākāpō to Zealandia Ecosanctuary - the charismatic ambassador for his species and spokesbird for conservation in New Zealand - Sirocco. Kākāpō have many unique characteristics for a parrot including being very large, long lived, nocturnal and flightless.
Children adore these t-shirts from Tumbleweed with iconic New Zealand images on them. The designs are hand-printed in Wellington and then the ink has been heat cured to to ensure durability. Wellington-based duo Kimberly and James have turned their background in biology and “bird nerd” obsession into a t-shirt business. All of the design and print work is done in-house in Days Bay, New Zealand - from rough sketches through to finished art work, transferring the art to silk screens and printing. They screen-print all products by hand, using low environmental impact water-based inks. Their t-shirts are designed in New Zealand, and made in either China or Bangladesh. The production facilities are all W.R.A.P (Worldwide Responsible Accredited Production) certified , ensuring a sweat-shop free product and ethical work conditions.
